COMMENTS Bands 4, 5, and 7 of a portion of a July, 1991 Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite image, resampled from 25 to 40 meters. This image was acquired by the US Forest Service, Region 6. This resampled image contains only three (of seven) spectral bands: Landsat TM 3, 4, and 5; represented in the LAN file as bands 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The reflectance values for each band can be assigned to the three different color guns in the computer. The resulting "false-color" images are initially unfamiliar in appearance. Different band combinations of bands, however, can highlight different details in vegetation and land cover. Band 3 represents reflectance in the visible red range of the spectrum (0.63-0.69 µm [micrometers]); Band 4 is in the near infrared (0.76-0.90 µm); and Band 5 is in the mid infrared (1.55-1.75 µm).
